FELA Launches First 2026 CLE Program in Collaboration with Ministry of Environment and GIZ
The Fiji Environmental Law Association (FELA) successfully hosted its first Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program of 2026. The two-day workshop took place from March 26–27, 2026, inside the conference hall at the Yatu Lau Hotel & Conference in Suva.
Organized in close partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and GIZ, the intensive program gathered legal practitioners from across Fiji. The training focused heavily on environmental governance, accountability mechanisms, and enforcing laws that safeguard the Pacific’s fragile marine and coastal ecosystems.
Participants who completed the full two-day block were eligible to earn 10 CLE points, subject to final approval by the Board of Legal Education (BLE).
Key Highlights From the Sessions
- Enforcing Environmental Law: Distinguished guest speakers—including Resident Magistrate Ms. Seini Korosaya Puamau, Acting DPP Nancy Tikoisuva, and SSP Rajesh Krishna (Director Legal, Fiji Police Force)—led critical panels on compliance framework enforcement.
- Marine & Coastal Governance: Expert panels featured insights from USP’s Institute of Applied Sciences (IAS), the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji (BAF), and the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) regarding maritime space regulations.
- Protecting Natural Ecosystems: Legal managers from the Fiji Ports Corporation Limited emphasized legislative priorities regarding coral reefs and mangrove conservation.
FELA extends its deepest gratitude to our co-hosts, expert speakers, and all the dedicated legal practitioners who attended. Your engagement continues to strengthen the rule of law and resource management across our islands.
